Visualizing worlds unknown, relying purely on the imagination Le Goff developed sculptural techniques to create these futuristic icons. Worlds exploding, stars beginning life, nebula solar systems not yet detected are actualized on plaster covered canvas. The artist uses natural pigments and materials he collected whilst walking the hills of Hydra island, Greece where the artist lives. Spiky shards of aluminium rich rock project from the surface of his creations, lumps of sulphur bubble and ooze from crevasses in the plaster and pure earth pigments form mounds of intense unadulterated colour. These are the landscapes of untouched planets; primitive, savage and spectacularly beautiful in their isolation. Le Goff has travelled there in his mind and brings back to us these images like satellite snapshots taken through the lens of his own eye. None of his creation is based on researching what we already know what we already have seen. Of course images of neighbouring planets spread through the media have lodged themselves unwittingly in his memory bank, but he keeps no scrapbook, no source library outside of his own memory cathedral. Sumptuous colour of magenta, vermillion and lapis lazuli flash galaxies across molten red lava-scapes. Where there is peace and serenity in exquisite gold traced universes there is also violence and hostility in pock marked terrains that seem to burn to the touch. Topoglyptes can be contemplated at incredible length opening the mind to a journey through time. The eye is drawn into a swirling vortex that sends the viewer spinning beyond our stratosphere. Mind voyages that soon may be a reality.
